CreatureSound At A Glance

Terrestrial Records in-house recording studio, CreatureSound, is a full-service boutique project facility located on Hawthorne Boulevard in South East Portland, Oregon.

In a completely rehabilitated warehouse building amidst the shops and apartments on the lower berth of the boulevard, Creature boasts 4,000 square feet of recording and living space for the discriminating artist, producer, and engineer.

This place is custom from the ground up, complete, and ready to rock. And then roll. Featuring the Portland metro area's largest live recording space, the space is host to amenities not found in any other recording space, including a range of great analog equipment, and of course, our deft recording and mixing skills.

The Unique Live Rooms

The recording spaces themselves are spacious and comfortable with lots of natural light, and well isolated from the city outside. The main tracking room is just over 900 square feet with 20' ceilings and movable acoustic treatment, allowing wide variables in the acoustic environment. Two isolation booths, an ADA bathroom, and the wide open lounge area all have mic/line I/O and cue, resulting in a highly flexible tracking space.

The Killer Gear

A mid-70's vintage 40 x 24 x 24 Trident TSM console (fully recapped and cleaned Jan. 2007) anchorheads the signal path, and main monitoring is on Dynaudio BM15As. Our digital platform is Pro Tools HD2 with 24 channels of Apogee I/O, running on a 2.8 GHz Mac Pro system with dual 23" monitors.

The recently acquired Studer A800 mk. III two-inch 24 track machine, Studer A820 1/2" stereo deck, and EMT 140 plate reverb all resided at the legendary Bearsville studios in Woodstock, NY for the past 25 years. There, they were expertly maintained by the studio's top techs and recorded hits from superstars and highly regarded indie masterpieces. Here, we maintain these machines with the same attention to detail and tender, loving care.

Our collection of outboard processing and microphones is constantly growing, and includes standard items by Neve, Universal Audio, Manley, Soundelux, Royer, AEA, Beyerdynamic, and Shure. A full implement of plugins by Waves, McDSP, et al. are also availble.

The One-of-a-Kind Living Space

Our attached 1,000 square foot condominium is what makes us most unique, and enables full immersion in your recording experience. Amenities include a gourmet kitchen, high-efficiency washer & dryer, deluxe "hotel-style" bathroom facilities with tankless water heater (EVERYBODY GETS HOT WATER!!!), comfortable sleeping arrangements for up to eight, wireless high-speed internet, and a 42" HDTV. Off-street parking can accomodate four large vehicles, and our dock makes load-in a breeze.

Nearby Booze and Shmooze

Catering is available from several fine chefs in the area (our in-house chef specializes in gourmet Vegan cuisine), and since we're right on Hawthorne, dozens of bars, restaurants, and venues are within walking distance or a very short drive.
